It’s Fun Facts Friday! Here at Amoré, we make it our mission to educate our friends and clients on healthy hair care products (both for the environment and for our bodies). Today, we’d like to introduce you to our Unite product line! Unite is so amazingly effective that it is used for L.A. and NY Fashion Weeks for all the models! And, believe it or not, it is a VEGAN product line! Unite products are sulfate and paraben free. What does that mean? You might ask?

Let’s learn about what Sulfates and Parabens are and why it’s important for our beauty products to be sulfate and paraben free:

Parabens are a class of chemicals widely used as preservatives in the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries. Parabens are effective preservatives in many types of formulas. These compounds, and their salts, are used primarily for their bactericidal and fungicidal properties. They can be found in shampoos, commercial moisturizers, shaving gels, personal lubricants, topical/parenteral pharmaceuticals, spray tanning solution and toothpaste. They are also used as food additives. Products containing parabens (and sulfates), from water bottles to your hair products, are beginning to get the attention of health researchers because a high concentration of parabens are showing up in breast cancer tumors. A causal link to cancer has yet to be established but more research is being done and we feel it’s best to play it safe and not take any chances!!

Sulfates are an ingredient that is a “sudsing” agent that gives the comsumer the impression that the hair is getting “CLEAN”. Sodium lauryl sulfate a high volume synthetic chemical used in consumer products and regulated as a pesticide. A suspected gastrointestinal or liver toxicant, sodium lauryl sulfate can be drying and harsh for the hair. It can also cause eye irritation, allergic reactions, and hair loss. The Cosmetic, Toiletry, and Fragrance Association discourages use of sodium lauryl sulfate in products intended for prolonged use, unless in low concentrations.

At Amoré, our philosophy is: If you can find products that are equally or more effective without sulfates and parabens — Use those! The research out there states that these things are “ok” or “bad” but none of them say they are good for you. Also, when these fillers are used in products, the products become less effective over time because they build up on hair. So we recommend you get rid of any products you have that contain these ingredients and find some that are healthy! And that is where Unite comes in!!
